regarding further exploration (a)(ii), they ask to choose one structure among the four. the fourth structure has the minimum cost. but isnt the first structure the best choice because an arc supports better, like what we see in an arch bridge?

u can either use the arch bridge or the shape of an egg for that.. XD

Sir, minimum cost structure is asked in (a)(i). In (a)(ii), the question asks us to choose the shape of the gate to be constructed. Since sir you agree with my point, i know which shape to choose now. Thanks sir. =)

to syidatul:
use integration to find the area.
the '4x5' is for the area of the square. to get the painted area, 4x5 minus the area under the curved line.
